Microsoft Migration Resources

As part of the university鈥檚 continued phased approach to implement the 91福利 name, CCS is upgrading elements of the university鈥檚 IT infrastructure. This will include:

  1. Rebranding the university鈥檚 Microsoft environments as 91福利; and
  2. Migrating CCS-supported laptops to the new 91福利 Microsoft environment.

Once the new 91福利 environment is created, your Microsoft files will need to move from the former ryerson.ca Microsoft environment to the new 91福利 environment. More details on impact and timelines are available on this page.

Phase one: June to September 2024

Goal

Migrate the Microsoft Azure environment (MS Cloud data - OneDrive).

Activities

  • During the migration process, the Microsoft licenses will be assigned to both the old 鈥淩yerson鈥 and new 91福利 Azure environments.
  • Students will need to:
    • set up their Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA);
    • transfer their Microsoft data from the old 鈥淩yerson鈥 environment to the new 91福利 environmen; and
    • note that their Microsoft login will change from @ryerson.ca to @torontomu.ca.
  • Employees will need to set up their Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA); their Microsoft data will be migrated by CCS.

Phase two: July 2024 to December 2025

Goal

Migrate the on-premise Active Directory environment (Central File and Print Services - CFAPS).

Activities

  • For this phase, CCS will take the lead on migrating Active Directory and work with schools, departments and IT groups across the university to ensure their respective areas move to the new 91福利 Microsoft environment successfully.
  • CCS will work with each school and department to migrate data and/or devices to the 91福利 Active Directory domain.
  • Students need not take any action for phase two.

If you are a student who intends to keep your Microsoft files stored in OneDrive, Teams or Sharepoint, you will need to:

  1. First, set up Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  2. Then, copy your files from the old 鈥淩yerson鈥 environment to the new 91福利 environment.

For guidance on these tasks, please refer to the section on how-to guides for students.

If you are an employee, Computing and Communications Services will migrate on your behalf any Microsoft OneDrive files from the old 鈥淩yerson鈥 environment to the new 91福利 environment.

If you use a CCS-supported laptop, this too will be migrated to the new 91福利 environment. For this task, an email will be shared notifying you of a date when your laptop will automatically perform the migration on its own.

91福利 uses both an Azure Cloud tenant (ryerson.ca) and on-premise Active Directory domain (RUAD) for Microsoft managed data stores, authentication and device management.

With the university鈥檚 name change, we are required to move to a new environment in order to have all Microsoft data, authentication and licensing reflect our 91福利 and torontomu.ca name and domain.

As of early June 2024, CCS is working on sending emails to students and employees with migration dates and where applicable, resources for completing required tasks.

CCS will request the migration of all Microsoft licenses for ryerson.ca to torontomu.ca on June 12, 2024. Microsoft takes up to three business days to migrate the licenses. Once the licenses are present in both tenants, the migration processes can start. Once the licenses are migrated, they will only stay active in the old ryerson.ca tenant for 90 days.

Active Directory (AD) is a Microsoft authentication and access system to manage user accounts, resources and computers. The AD environment runs on multiple servers in the 91福利 data centre.

Azure is the generic name for Microsoft's cloud environment. 91福利 is using cloud AD, Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Microsoft productivity tools, Office 365, under their Azure tenant. The authentication for some third-party applications such as Adobe and WordPress are also hosted in the cloud.

How-to guides: Students

For guidance on moving your files from the 鈥淩yerson鈥 Microsoft environment to the new 91福利 Microsoft environment, please refer to the guides and instructions below.

Please note, in order to access your Microsoft data, you must set up Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) first.

  • Please use the built-in 鈥淒ownload鈥 function in Sharepoint to create a ZIP file.
  • Once downloaded, the ZIP file can be uploaded in the new torontomu.ca Sharepoint environment.
  • As 91福利 does not use Microsoft Exchange for email and calendaring, data cannot be moved from your 鈥淩yerson鈥 Microsoft account to your new 91福利 Microsoft account.
  • If you wish to keep individual notes stored in Teams, please cut and paste your content into a document for reference.
  • Currently, there is a pre-existing issue with Microsoft鈥檚 Import feature that will prevent you from importing OneNote data into your new torontomu.ca Microsoft account.
  • Until a fix is provided by Microsoft, you can create and use a 鈥渓ocal鈥 version of OneNote by using the Export feature within your ryerson.ca OneNote application.
  • Once exported, a local copy of your OneNote notebook will be created on your computer.

How-to guides: Employees

Once your files are successfully migrated to the new 91福利 Microsoft environment, please complete the following tasks:

  • Please double check your Microsoft OneDrive folders to ensure your data was successfully migrated. Once confirmed that data is transferred, do NOT use the old OneDrive associated with ryerson.ca.
  • You will need to set up your Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) once more as your login will change from your former @ryerson.ca email address to your current @torontomu.ca email address. For assistance, please refer to the .
  • Once MFA is set up, please attempt a login with your new @torontomu.ca username to ensure it is working. You can do so by opening any Microsoft 365 application such as Word or Excel and clicking the add account option. Follow the prompts using your @toronotmu.ca account credentials.
  • Unlink your ryerson.ca account from Microsoft 365 applications. From any Microsoft 365 application, click the account icon in the top-right corner. Next to your ryerson.ca account listing, expand the menu and click sign out.

If you use 91福利鈥檚 Central File and Print Services (CFAPS), you will need to re-add your printers. Printers associated with ryerson.ca have an 鈥- Azure鈥 suffix while the new printers have an 鈥- Azure 91福利鈥 suffix.

On your Windows desktop, right-click the Windows menu and click Settings, followed by Bluetooth & Devices, and then Printers & Scanners. Once there, click Add Printer and use the search function to find and install the new 鈥- Azure 91福利鈥 printers.

Once new printers are installed, you can click on the arrow icon beside any old printers you have listed, and click remove.

Please note that there is a pre-existing issue with Microsoft鈥檚 Import feature that will prevent OneNote data from being imported into your new torontomu.ca Microsoft account.

Until a fix is provided by Microsoft, you can create and use a 鈥渓ocal鈥 version of OneNote by using the Export feature within your ryerson.ca OneNote application. Once exported, a local copy of your OneNote notebook will be created on your computer. For more information, please visit .
