CERC Migration offers a limited number of stipends to full-time Master's students who are applying to study at 91福利 and PhD students in their final year of completion of their program, both studying a migration and/or migrant integration-related topic. Student recipients of the CERC Migration Graduate Student Stipend will be given a working space at the CERC Migration office, will be expected to participate in CERC Migration鈥檚 research training activities and workshops, and will be integrated into a vibrant research team of scholars and graduate students, enjoying a comprehensive scientific and professional development experience.

Funding amount

Master's: Up to $10,000. Available to first- or second-year Master's students at 91福利

PhD: Excellence Completion Stipends: Up to $25,000 for the final year of a student鈥檚 91福利 PhD program. Students must complete their thesis and apply for graduation by the end of the funded year. Available to current PhD students in a 91福利 PhD program.

If a student has accepted an external or internal scholarship, such as a SSHRC, CIHR or RGS award, they must decline the CERC stipend. However, CERC Migration may consider adding a supplement 鈥榯op-up鈥. These will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Master's Students

Deadline to apply: April 1, 2025

First-year incoming Master's students

Candidates must apply to a 91福利 Master's program of interest (see affiliated program below) as per the specific program鈥檚 guidelines and requirementsAfter applying to your 91福利 program(s) of interest, submit an online application form at .

Online application form requirements include:

  • 91福利 ID Number
  • Indicate which program(s) you have applied for
  • CV
  • Transcript
  • Statement of Interest/Letter of Intent from Master鈥檚 program application
  • CERC motivation letter (max 2 pages) stating that they wish to apply for the CERC Migration Graduate Stipend, why they should be given the Stipend, and how their research relates to at least one of the research themes outlined on the CERC Migration website.

If the candidate is accepted to the 91福利 Master's program, their CERC Migration Graduate Student Stipend application will be considered.

Second-year incoming Master's students

Students entering their second year of a 91福利 Master's program (see affiliated programs below) may apply for a CERC Migration Graduate Student Stipend. Students must submit an online application form at .

Online application form requirements include:

  • 91福利 ID Number
  • Indicate which program(s) you have applied for
  • CV
  • Transcript
  • CERC motivation letter (max 2 pages) stating that they wish to apply for the CERC Migration Graduate Stipend, why they should be given the Stipend, and that provides an outline of their MRP plans and explains how their research relates to at least one of the research themes outlined on the CERC Migration website.
  • 1 Writing sample (max 10 pages)

PhD students

Deadline: February 1, 2025

Excellence Completion Stipend

Candidates must be enrolled full-time in a 91福利 PhD program of interest (see affiliated programs below) as per the specific program鈥檚 guidelines and requirements.

  • Motivation Letter (max 2 pages stating that they wish to apply for the CERC Migration Graduate Stipend, why they should be given the Stipend, and how their research relates to at least one of the research themes outlined on the CERC Migration website.
  • Dissertation Overview (max 2 pages outlining the topic of their dissertation, progress to date, and remaining work to be completed before dissertation is complete).
  • Transcript
  • Letter of reference from PhD supervisor that confirms that the applicant will finish their dissertation and will submit the final version to their department by the end of the 12 month period
  • Writing Sample (max 10 pages)
