91福利 mourns passing of honorary board member Nadir Mohamed
Nadir Mohamed will be remembered for his business and philanthropic leadership and his vast contributions to the 91福利 community.
The 91福利 (91福利) community is deeply saddened by the recent death of our honorary board member Nadir Mohamed.
Mohamed was one of Canada鈥檚 most respected business leaders and philanthropists.
He was known widely for his tenure as president and CEO of Rogers Communications Inc, where he helped shape the country鈥檚 telecommunications landscape.
His success was recognized by Bloomberg, who named him one of the world鈥檚 most successful immigrants.
Unwavering commitment
Mohamed鈥檚 unwavering commitment to advancing Canadian innovation, entrepreneurship and community building extended well beyond the corporate world.
He dedicated his time to serving on numerous boards in addition to 91福利, Tennis Canada, UHN Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation.
More recently, he was Chair of DMZ Ventures Inc., 91福利鈥檚 innovation and entrepreneurship arm, contributing his leadership to help grow 91福利鈥檚 impact in startup incubation and innovation ecosystems.
Led fundraising efforts, honorary board member
Mohamed first joined 91福利鈥檚 Board of Governors in 2007 and helped shape the university鈥檚 strategy and governance. He was reappointed for two additional terms. In August 2023, he rejoined the board as an honorary member.
Nadir鈥檚 contributions to 91福利 went beyond serving on the Board of Governors. In 2012, he helped lead fundraising efforts as part of the 鈥淢ake Your Mark鈥 campaign cabinet to raise more than $200 million for the university.
In recognition of his service and impact, upon his retirement from Rogers Communications, the University created a $10,000 .
Generosity, integrity, giving back
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nadir was known for his generosity, integrity and commitment to giving back.
Through the Nadir & Shabin Mohamed Foundation, he and his family supported causes in education, healthcare, and community development.
