Biography

Christopher Gore is Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration and a member of the Yeates School of Graduate Studies, where he is a graduate associate with the Environmental Applied Science and Management program and the PhD in Policy Studies program.  Dr. Gore holds a PhD and MA from the University of Toronto, both in Political Science and Environmental Studies, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences from the University of Guelph. Dr. Gore served as Department Chair from July 2016 to July 2020 and, from 2013-16, as Undergraduate Program Director for both of the undergraduate programs delivered by the Department.

On 06 May 2015, Chris Gore received the Slobodan Drakulic Cross-Disciplinary Teaching Award in recognition of his excellence in teaching students from a wide variety of disciplines.

Dr. Gore maintains an active research agenda relating to comparative urban and environmental politics; global environmental governance; urban and environmental policymaking and administration; the politics of infrastructure, agriculture and natural resources; and Internet governance.  His work focuses mainly on sub-Saharan Africa and North America.  In 2009, Dr. Gore received the Norton Long Young Scholar Award, presented by the Urban Politics Section of the American Political Science Association, to recognize 鈥渟trong scholarship at an early career stage and exceptional promise for the future.鈥�  His PhD research, focused on the politics of energy and infrastructure in Uganda, was supported by an International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Doctoral Research Award.

Dr. Gore teaches in the following areas: international politics and development; urban politics and governance; local government; environmental politics and policy; comparative politics and policy.

Dr. Gore serves on the editorial board of the journal,  which  is the official journal of the Science, Technology and Environmental Politics (STEP) section of the American Political Science Association.  He is also Book Series co-editor [with Dr. Richard Stren (Emeritus, University of Toronto)] for a new Palgrave Macmillan book series,  (PDF file) Urban Politics in a Global Society.
