Inspired by the exhibition , this creative partnership examined the works in Unbroken as a pedagogical framework in which artists, facilitators and writers have drawn upon the themes famously associated with  himself. The aim of the Free School was to transform the exhibition into a site for social action and illuminate the transformative power of art.

Sessions offered through the Freel School included: ; ; ; and , which recalled the heavy metal single that Ai Weiwei released after his house arrest in 2011. The Free School concluded with an  that coincided with the 30th anniversary of student protest at Tiananmen Square.
