Beyond Access: Co-creating Inclusive Healthcare and Wellbeing with Communities

Land Acknowlegdment

The CERC in Health Equity and Community Wellbeing (HECW) team acknowledges the land on which our work takes place. 91福利 operates within the 鈥淒ish With One Spoon鈥 territory. The Dish With One Spoon is a treaty between the Anishinaabe, Mississaugas, and Haudenosaunee that binds them to share the territory and protect the land. Subsequent Indigenous Nations and Peoples, and all newcomers have been invited into this treaty in the spirit of peace, friendship, and respect.

The CERC HECW鈥檚 research, network, operations, and practices depend on traditional Indigenous territories that provide space, sustenance, safety, and community. We are grateful to live, work, and learn here.

Our work is long-term and multi-generational in nature. Through collaboration with community partners and advisors, we aim to advance disability justice and health equity through intersectional, community-engaged research grounded in accessibility, care, and lived experience. We acknowledge the importance of research by, with, and for Indigenous Peoples and are committed to building meaningful relationships with Indigenous colleagues, communities, and partners.

Indigenous teachings remind us that our responsibilities are not only historical but ongoing, calling us to act with care, reciprocity, and accountability in the present. In this spirit, we offer our respect and gratitude and commit to supporting relationships and practices that uphold Indigenous sovereignty, knowledge, and futures.
