General questions

The Transfer Credit Unit confirms your transfer credit eligibility, the accreditation of your institutions and the accuracy of your grades. Then they route your application to the appropriate teaching department for review. A subject area expert from the teaching department will assess your course outline and determine equivalency.

Your professor or program department can't issue transfer credits. Follow the process for how to apply for transfer credits.

We don't recommend that you drop a course before official transfer credit results are available. Check your Transfer Credit Report regularly.

It鈥檚 best to adjust your schedule immediately after getting your official transfer credit results. Refer to the significant dates section of the undergraduate calendar and contact your academic advisor for help.

If you鈥檝e studied at a college or university in Canada, you can apply for transfer credits after you apply for admission to a 91福利 program. If you鈥檝e attended post-secondary studies at an accredited institution outside of Canada, you鈥檒l need to accept an Offer of Admission to 91福利 before we can assess your courses for transfer credits.

Transfer Credit Application questions

Yes, you can apply for transfer credit, however course content is subject to change over time. In order to meet current curriculum, accreditation and learning outcome requirements, some courses completed 10 years ago or more may not be recognized for transfer credit (e.g. Computer Science, Nursing, Media Studies, etc.).

Submit your request via email to tcredits@torontomu.ca. You must reference your 91福利 Student Number and name, and indicate the transfer credit you want removed from your record.

Once your application has been processed, you can鈥檛 edit your IP grades. Please arrange for the submission of an updated transcript and we鈥檒l update the IP marks within two weeks of receiving it.

If your course only covers the subject matter of one 91福利 course, you may receive a single credit. If you feel that an additional credit may have been overlooked, submit a Transfer Credit Reassessment Form to have your application reconsidered.

As long as you received a successful upload message, your application and course outline was received. You鈥檒l receive an email once we begin processing your application. If you鈥檝e been newly admitted and will be starting your program in the fall, processing will begin in May.

Use the lookup tool on the application to access a list of courses we鈥檝e evaluated. If your course isn鈥檛 there, it will be displayed in red. To have it added to our database, email tcredits@torontomu.ca with the following information:

  1. Name of the institution
  2. Course code and course title as it appears on your transcript
  3. Year the course was taken
  4. Grade received
  5. Your 91福利 Student Number

The course will then be added to our database and you can continue with your application.

Transfer credit reassessment

Yes, you can submit a Transfer Credit Reassessment Form to have your application reconsidered.

If you're applying for a liberal studies transfer credit, the course content needs to be related and meet the strict writing requirement in the liberal studies policy

Writing courses aren't eligible for liberal studies. The following assignment types don't qualify for the writing requirement:

  • Journals
  • Self-reflection essays
  • Blogs
  • Essay portions of an exam
  • Questions and answers (Q&As)

Generic and liberal studies courses

To receive a specific credit, your course must be equivalent. When equivalency can鈥檛 be established, sometimes a generic transfer credit is provided.

All courses must meet the writing requirement to be considered for a liberal studies credit.

Unfortunately these credits don鈥檛 meet the requirements of a liberal studies credit. Please refer to the "My transfer credits and 91福利 curriculum" section on the My Results page for more information.

Degree requirements

We highly recommend attending your program鈥檚 orientation session for information. You can also contact your program advisor. They can help you determine if any of the non-applicable courses shown in your Advisement Report can be directed toward your program requirements.
